The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is getting ready to roll out a much-awaited feature for Aadhaar users. Soon, you will be able to update your Aadhaar-linked mobile number right from your home, without visiting an Aadhaar center!
UIDAI revealed on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle that this new facility will be launched shortly.
At present, users need to visit an Aadhaar enrollment or update center to change or update their registered mobile number. This process often involves long queues, especially troublesome for senior citizens and differently-abled persons.
To make things easier, UIDAI is introducing a new technology in its updated Aadhaar app. The process will use a combination of OTP verification and Aadhaar face authentication. Users will first enter the OTP received on their registered mobile number and then verify their identity using live face authentication through the camera.
Once this process is completed successfully, the mobile number update will be done instantly, right from your home.
UIDAI has advised users to download the latest version of the Aadhaar app to access this upcoming feature. It has also invited feedback from those who have already tested the new facility.
