SIM Binding Rule: New Instructions from the Government for WhatsApp and Telegram — Apps Will Work Only with a SIM!
The Central Government has issued key instructions to communication apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and Arattai. As per the latest directive from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), SIM binding has now been made mandatory. This means these apps will function only if a valid SIM card is present in the device.
These new guidelines are part of the Telecommunication Cybersecurity (Amendment) Rules, 2025, and all app-based communication service providers must implement them within 90 days.
According to the amendment, such apps are now classified as Telecommunication Identifier User Entities (TIUEs).
The app account must be linked to the SIM card in the device.
If the SIM card is removed or changed, the app will automatically log out.
When users access these apps via web browsers, they will be logged out every six hours, and re-login will require scanning a QR code from the primary device.
The main goal behind this move is to ensure that all communication services remain secure and traceable, preventing misuse or unauthorized access.
Currently, apps like WhatsApp verify the SIM card only during installation. Even after removing or deactivating the SIM, users can continue to use the app — a loophole that has been exploited by cybercriminals abroad.
With the SIM binding rule in place, experts believe cyber fraud and impersonation cases will reduce significantly.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued a crucial advisory to mobile users regarding the misuse of SIM cards. The department has made it clear that if your SIM card is used for cybercrime or any illegal activity, you — as the registered owner — will also be held accountable.
Many people casually give away or discard SIM cards they no longer use. However, if such a SIM ends up being used for fraudulent activities, the person in whose name it was issued will face serious legal action.
The DoT has cautioned citizens not to buy, sell, or use mobile devices with tampered IMEI numbers and to avoid SIM boxes or modems with fake IMEIs. It also warned against purchasing SIM cards using fake documents or giving away SIMs registered in your name to others.
Furthermore, the department advised people not to use mobile apps or websites that can alter the Calling Line Identity (CLI) or other telecom identifiers, as this too is considered a punishable offence.
According to the Telecommunications Act, 2023, tampering with a mobile’s IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a serious crime punishable by up to three years of imprisonment, a fine of up to ₹50 lakh, or both.
Under the Telecommunication Rules, 2024, the use of devices with altered IMEIs is completely banned.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to introduce a completely new design for the Aadhaar card. Officials revealed that this move aims to strengthen data security and prevent misuse of personal information. The new rules and design are expected to be officially rolled out in December.
The new Aadhaar card will look very different from the current one.
It will display only the photo and a QR code.
Personal details such as name, address, and the 12-digit Aadhaar number will no longer be printed on the card.
All details will be stored securely inside the QR code, accessible only through authorized authentication.
Officials explained that since existing cards display too much information, they are prone to misuse. The new format is designed to ensure complete data protection.
The redesigned Aadhaar will make it nearly impossible for anyone to misuse your details.
The QR code will hold encrypted information.
Only verified organizations or apps will be able to access it.
This step also prevents illegal collection of Aadhaar numbers or biometrics by hotels, private companies, or online services.
From now on, Aadhaar will serve only as a verification tool, not a physical document for copying or sharing.
Along with the new card, UIDAI is also set to launch a brand-new Aadhaar mobile app, which will replace the existing mAadhaar application.

Cyber Alert in Telangana: Hundreds of WhatsApp Groups Hacked Through APK Files!
Cybercriminals are creating chaos in Telangana using malicious APK files. On Sunday, several WhatsApp groups across the state were flooded with fake messages claiming to be from “Team SBI.” The message warned users — “Your bank account will be blocked tonight for not updating Aadhaar and KYC details. Click the link below to update immediately.”
Fearing account suspension, many SBI customers clicked the fake link. Once they did, their phones were compromised — giving complete control to cybercriminals. The same message was then automatically forwarded from their devices to other WhatsApp groups, spreading rapidly to thousands of users.
Shockingly, the hacked groups included those of government officials, media personnel, students, and local communities. As personal information from affected phones reached hackers, panic spread across the state. Many victims have already reported the issue to local police and the cybercrime helpline 1930.
If you have unknowingly installed any suspicious APK file, follow these urgent steps:
Turn off mobile data/Wi-Fi immediately.
Go to Settings → Apps → Uninstall the APK app.
Run a full antivirus scan on your phone.
Change passwords for all banking apps, social media, and email accounts.
Review your call logs, messages, bank transactions, and email logins for any unusual activity.
If the app cannot be removed, restart your phone in Safe Mode and uninstall it from there.
If issues persist, back up your important data and perform a factory reset.
In case of financial loss or suspected fraud, immediately freeze your bank account and call Cyber Helpline 1930 to file a complaint.

State Bank of India (SBI) has issued an important alert. The bank will stop its mCASH money transfer service after November 30, 2025.
From December 1, 2025, customers cannot send or claim money through mCASH using OnlineSBI or YONO Lite.
mCASH was a convenient feature for SBI internet banking users. It allowed customers to:
Send money without adding a beneficiary
Use the recipient’s mobile number or email ID
Allow the receiver to claim money via a secure SMS/email link + 8-digit passcode
Deposit the amount into any bank account using the link or the mCASH app
Since the service is being discontinued, SBI recommends customers to switch to other secure, widely used digital transfer methods such as:
UPI
IMPS
NEFT
RTGS
The bank suggests that users can easily make transfers using the BHIM SBI Pay UPI app.

Tap ‘Pay’
Choose a method — VPA/UPI ID, Account No + IFSC, or QR Code
Enter the recipient’s details
Select your debit account
Enter your UPI PIN to complete the transaction
