PAN-Aadhaar Linking Now Mandatory: Deadline Over!
A crucial warning has been issued for crores of PAN cardholders across India. If you haven’t linked your Permanent Account Number (PAN) with your Aadhaar, your financial future could be in danger.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has already closed the deadline, and unlinked PAN cards are now being marked ‘inactive’ — which could disrupt your financial and tax-related transactions.
Why is PAN-Aadhaar Linking Important?
As per Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, 1961, it is mandatory for every PAN holder to link their card with Aadhaar.
The move aims to:
-
Prevent tax evasion
-
Eliminate duplicate or fake PAN cards
-
Build a transparent financial ecosystem
Although the government extended the deadline multiple times, lakhs of citizens have still not completed the linking. Now, those who missed the deadline must pay a fine of ₹1000 to reactivate their PAN.
Consequences of Not Linking PAN with Aadhaar
Once your PAN becomes inactive, you are legally treated as someone without a valid PAN card.
Here’s what happens next:
-
❌ Cannot file income tax returns
-
💸 Refunds will stop — no IT refunds will be processed
-
📉 High TDS deductions — 20% tax may be deducted on salary, interest, and other incomes
-
🏦 Banking restrictions — transactions above ₹50,000 may be blocked, and you can’t open a new demat account
-
🚫 Property or vehicle purchases — registration and sale processes may get suspended
